Brazil police and utility crack down on illegal electricity connections

In Cariacica, Espírito Santo, a joint operation involving the Civil Police, Military Police and the electricity company EDP removed 69 clandestine power lines supplying dozens of residences. The action, carried out on June 10, was ordered by the state public prosecutor and aimed at curbing energy theft, which poses safety risks such as electric shocks and fires. No arrests were made during the operation.

A separate operation took place in Monte Alegre, Pará, on June 10‑11. Police, the Scientific Police and the utility Equatorial Pará inspected ten commercial premises, uncovered illegal connections, recovered four 10 kVA transformers and seized about 40 m of cable. Ten people were taken into custody after being caught in the act. Both operations highlight ongoing efforts by authorities and utilities to combat electricity fraud and protect the public supply.
