DF Group CEO Douglas Fonseca arrested in Brazil's Piauí fraud probe
Brazilian authorities in the state of Piauí have detained Douglas Fonseca Araújo, the founder and CEO of the investment firm DF Group, along with 12 other suspects. The operation, led by the Superintendência de Operações Integradas (SOI) of the Secretaria de Segurança Pública, targets a scheme alleged to involve qualified fraud (estelionato), electronic fraud, organized crime and money laundering. Investigators say the group attracted hundreds of victims by promising monthly returns of up to 10%, ultimately moving roughly R$ 100 million and affecting more than 70 investors over two years.
During raids on the company’s headquarters in Teresina, police seized luxury cars, high‑end watches, firearms, electronic equipment, documents and other assets. Over 100 police reports have been filed, and victims report losses ranging from smaller sums to at least R$ 450 thousand per investor. The temporary detention of the suspects was upheld in a hearing, and the investigation continues to identify additional participants and trace the destination of the funds.
