Brazil police arrest suspects in highway cable and tire thefts
In Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, a 19‑year‑old motoboy and a 33‑year‑old painter were arrested after police found about 21.8 kg of Vivo telecom cables, a cutting knife and their vehicle in a roadside stop. The suspects confessed that they had stolen the cables to sell them for around R$35 per kilogram, citing financial difficulties.
On Brazil's BR‑050 near Uberaba, Minas Gerais, two men aged 26 and 34 were detained by the Federal Highway Police for stealing a spare tire from a truck while the driver slept. The police recovered the tire and the vehicle used by the duo; one suspect initially fled but was caught later that morning.
