Brazil police arrest three in Dom Aquino homicide probe

On July 2, the Mato Grosso Civil Police carried out Operation Dom Aquino Segura, executing six court orders to investigate two recent homicides in the municipality of Dom Aquino. The victims were Demolincio Gomes Pereira Filho, 53, shot on 7 April, and Adenir Alves de Freitas, 52, who disappeared on 8 May and whose body was found on 14 May.

The raids resulted in the arrest of three men—two aged 27 and one aged 37—charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, drug trafficking, obstruction of a criminal‑organization investigation, and drug use. Police seized a .36‑caliber long gun, dozens of rounds and cartridges, two holsters, a magazine, a toy gun, narcotics, 14 cell phones, powder, lead shot for homemade ammunition and about R$2,400 in cash. The operation is part of the state’s Pharus strategic plan under the “Zero Tolerance” program aimed at dismantling criminal factions.
