Brazil police arrest woman in Mato Grosso for credit‑card fraud scheme
On July 8, police in Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso launched Operation Simetria Fraudada and arrested a 46‑year‑old woman identified as the mastermind behind a credit‑card fraud scheme. The scheme targeted a facial‑harmonisation product distributor based in Paraná, causing an estimated loss of about R$ 38 thousand.
The investigation followed the June 16 arrest of a couple at the same residence, who had used falsified identities and third‑party credit cards to purchase the products. The couple were also charged with drug trafficking and possession of restricted ammunition. Authorities say the criminal network redirected postal deliveries, indicating a sophisticated logistical setup. While the fraud case will be handled by the Paraná Civil Police, the drug‑related offenses are now under the jurisdiction of the State Narcotics Repression Division.
