Brazil police capture thieves and vandals using surveillance cameras

In Limeira, São Paulo state, a 27‑year‑old man broke the window of a pickup truck and attempted to steal it after the vehicle’s owner saw the intrusion on a home‑monitoring system and called the Military Police. Officers arrived while the suspect was still inside, seized the vehicle’s electronic module and arrested him. The man told police he had been paid R$4,000 to take the truck to São Paulo and that another accomplice was involved.

In Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro state, two men vandalized a municipal monitoring tower at the corner of Rua Itaciba and Avenida Duque de Caxias. The city’s Smart Duque surveillance platform, equipped with facial‑recognition and license‑plate reading, tracked the perpetrators from the moment they left the scene. Police used the footage to locate and arrest both suspects, who were taken to the 59ª Delegacia de Polícia.
