Brazil police deaths of youth rise 3.9% in 2025
Deaths of children and adolescents aged zero to seventeen caused by police action in Brazil increased by 3.9% between 2024 and 2025. According to the 2026 Brazilian Public Security Yearbook, 428 of the 2,079 recorded deaths in the year resulted from security force interventions.
Despite the rise in police-related deaths, intentional violent deaths in this age group saw a 10.8% decrease in 2025. Data indicates a significant racial disparity: 86.3% of deceased adolescents aged twelve to seventeen were Black, while 62.6% of children aged zero to eleven shared this characteristic.
In Brasília, representatives from Unicef and the Brazilian Public Security Forum issued a manifesto calling for political candidates in the 2026 elections to commit to combating child violence. Additionally, reports show a 106.1% increase in domestic mistreatment cases from 2021 to 2025, and over 61,000 victims of sexual violence in 2025.
