Brazil police detain intoxicated drivers after crashes in Itajaí and Jandaia do Sul

In Itajaí, Santa Catarina, police arrested a 39‑year‑old man who was driving while visibly intoxicated. Around 22:00 he lost control of his vehicle, drove onto the sidewalk, struck a 27‑year‑old pedestrian and crashed into a commercial establishment. The pedestrian and the vehicle’s passenger sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital; the driver refused a breath test and was charged with drunken driving and placed in custody.

In Jandaia do Sul, Paraná, a 40‑year‑old woman was stopped after colliding her Toyota RAV4 with a motorcyclist at a busy intersection. Investigation revealed she had no driver’s licence and a breath‑alcohol test showed a level of 0.83 mg/L, above the legal limit. The motorcyclist suffered injuries and was treated, while the driver was detained by civil police. Both vehicles were released after the incident.

Both events illustrate ongoing enforcement of traffic‑safety laws against drunk and unlicensed driving in Brazil.
