Brazil police detain seven Colombian thieves in Indaiatuba and probe teenage‑linked shooting in Recife

In Indaiatuba, São Paulo state, police arrested seven Colombian nationals after two near‑simultaneous pharmacy burglaries. Surveillance footage led officers to two vehicles – a VW Polo and a Renault Sandero – from which large quantities of stolen medication were recovered. The suspects are being held pending further investigation, and the recovered goods will be returned to the affected pharmacies.

In Recife, Pernambuco state, a 30‑year‑old woman, Steffanie Mayara Batista dos Santos, was shot dead while breastfeeding inside her home. The killing, witnessed by five children, was carried out by two armed men who entered the house and opened fire. Two 17‑year‑old adolescents were later apprehended and confessed to participating in the homicide; they remain in custody on homicide and illegal‑weapon charges. Police suspect the murder is linked to a drug‑trade dispute.
