On 4 August 2024 the Polícia Civil do Distrito Federal (PCDF) launched Operation "Rede Interrompida" to dismantle an extremist network that had discussed using bombs against the building slated for a presidential debate during Brazil’s 2026 elections. Eight search‑and‑seizure warrants were executed in five states – São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Sul – targeting eight suspects aged 19 to 31.

Investigators said the group exchanged detailed maps, three‑dimensional models and architectural plans of the Palácio do Planalto and other central Brasília buildings, and discussed invasions, tactical training, recruitment across states and the manufacture of explosive devices. Materials seized also included a Confederate battle flag, a KKK‑style hood and a Burzum T‑shirt, indicating white‑supremacist influences. No explosives were found at the suspects’ homes.

The operation was prompted by a technical report from the Ministry of Justice’s Cyberlab. Following the raids, the Distrito Federal government created an Integrated Intelligence Cell, involving 22 federal and district agencies, to monitor security threats throughout the 2026 electoral period.
