Brazil police free hostages and seize weapons in Salvador, Maceió
In Salvador's Complexo do Nordeste de Amaralina, the Military Police, supported by the BOPE special unit, rescued six residents who had been held hostage by five gang members. The suspects surrendered after a coordinated operation by the 30th Battalion and other police forces and were taken to the local police station.
In Maceió's Mocambo neighborhood, an integrated police raid involving the state security secretariat and several military police battalions ended with one suspect dead, two arrested, and the seizure of firearms, an improvised submachine gun, ammunition, and large quantities of crack cocaine and marijuana. The operation was launched after reports of frequent clashes between rival criminal groups.
Both incidents illustrate a broader crackdown by Brazilian police on organized crime in the northeast region of the country.
