Brazil Police Recover Stolen Oncology Drugs in Rio; Arrest Couple in Pharmacy Theft

Police in Rio de Janeiro recovered a high‑value cargo of oncology drugs after a vehicle chase that began with a robbery of a specialized clinic in the Tijuca neighborhood. Officers from the 18th precinct located the suspects, engaged in a brief gunfire exchange, and seized the vehicle, finding the stolen medicines and other materials inside. The incident caused temporary traffic disruptions on Avenida Brasil while the investigation continues.

In Várzea Grande, police from the Specialized Theft Unit arrested two men who had broken into a pharmacy in the Cristo Rei district. The thieves stole slimming pens, cash worth more than R$24,000, and other merchandise. Investigators used security‑camera footage to track a gray Hyundai HB20 to a residence in Cuiabá, where they recovered the stolen items and additional cash. The suspects were taken into custody and charged with qualified theft.
