Brazil police seize 124 counterfeit Mounjaro vials in Bahia

The Civil Police of Bahia confiscated 124 ampoules of tirzepatide (the active ingredient of the diabetes drug Mounjaro) during a raid on an intercity bus passing through Vitória da Conquista on Saturday. The 15 mg vials were improperly packaged and lacked the required refrigeration, raising safety concerns. The operation, carried out by the Anti‑Theft and Robbery Division after an anonymous tip, also highlighted the growing illicit market for counterfeit versions produced in Paraguay and sold for weight‑loss purposes. The driver was detained for questioning while investigators work to trace the shipment’s origin, destination and other participants. If confirmed, the case could be treated as drug smuggling and a sanitary violation.
