Energisa leads crackdown on electricity theft across Brazil

Energisa’s regional units carried out a series of actions against illegal electricity consumption. In Presidente Prudente, a ten‑day operation identified more than 50 irregularities, diverting roughly 200,000 kWh – enough to power nearly a thousand families for a month. In Sergipe, the company reported about 2,000 theft incidents, recovering 5.05 GWh of stolen energy, sufficient for four months of supply to the town of Maruim. Across its South‑Southeast area, Energisa has detected over 800,000 kWh of irregular use, which could serve about 4,000 households for a month.

Police and utility crews responded to incidents affecting the grid. In Ponta Grossa, a high‑tension cable break was isolated by the Military Police and repaired by Copel, preventing accidents. Heavy rains in São João do Triunfo caused localized flooding, fallen trees and power outages, prompting the municipal civil defense and Copel to restore service.

Municipal authorities in Porto Alegre announced a new decree to strengthen the fight against cable and wire theft, alongside a public‑service hiring contest for additional inspectors. In Campo Grande, police seized a stolen energy meter linked to a recent theft ring. These coordinated efforts aim to curtail the widespread loss of electricity and improve public‑safety infrastructure.
