Brazil police suspend postal worker in Tramandaí over R$200,000 theft
The Brazilian Federal Police launched Operation Encomenda Paralela in Tramandaí, Rio Grande do Sul, to investigate a scheme in which a Correios employee allegedly diverted high‑value items from mail shipments. On 16 May, agents executed two search and seizure warrants, detained the postal worker and seized correspondence flagged in the postal system as "extraviado" (lost). The suspected crimes are peculato and receptação, with estimated losses of about R$200,000. Correios had to reimburse customers for the missing goods, which reportedly included cell phones. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities examining whether additional participants were involved.
