Brazil poll shows majority opposition to assisted death

A Datafolha poll reveals that a majority of Brazilians oppose assisted death practices. According to the survey, 56% of respondents are against euthanasia, while 60% oppose assisted suicide.

However, the country is divided regarding the suspension of life-prolonging treatments. There is a split between those who believe doctors should be allowed to stop treatments that only artificially maintain life at the request of the patient or family (48%) and those who disagree (48%).

The survey also indicated that moral acceptance varies by religious affiliation. Support for a doctor helping a terminal patient end their life was 34% among Evangelicals and 41% among Catholics, rising to 57% among those with no religious affiliation.
