Brazil 2027 Women's World Cup sees record 161,000 volunteer applicants
More than 161,000 people from 183 countries have applied to volunteer for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil. This figure more than doubles the 68,000 applications received for the 2023 tournament held in Australia and New Zealand.
Approximately 83% of the applicants are Brazilian, with the highest number of international registrations coming from Colombia, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, and the United States. The applicant pool is 58% female, 39% male, and 3% non-binary or other genders. The cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasília recorded the highest volume of interest.
From the total pool, approximately 6,000 volunteers will be selected to support operations across eight host cities. Selected individuals will work in over 20 areas, including technology, transport, media, and ceremony management. Patrícia Hespanha, administrative director for the tournament, stated that the response reflects enormous enthusiasm and will help create a lasting legacy for women's football in South America.
