Lula signs law automating child‑support payments via Pix in Brazil FAST-MOVING
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed two laws on 29 July 2026. The first creates an automatic child‑support payment mechanism, popularly called “Pix Pensão”, which allows a judicially‑authorized debit of the payer’s bank account through the Pix instant‑transfer system. If the account lacks sufficient funds, the bank must block the payer’s assets until the debt is settled. The law also requires the Conselho Nacional de Justiça to collect and share data on these payments.
The second law mandates the broad dissemination of the Ligue 180 hotline – a 24‑hour service for reporting violence against women – in high‑traffic public spaces such as schools, hospitals, transport hubs and entertainment venues. Both measures aim to improve financial security for families and strengthen protection for women.
The legislation had been approved by the Chamber of Deputies in April 2025 and by the Senate in early July 2025, and it will take effect one year after publication in the Official Gazette.
