Brazil President Lula signs law to develop women's football

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has signed Law 15.522, establishing permanent national guidelines for the development of women's football in Brazil. The legislation mandates that clubs responsible for training new athletes must also maintain a women's team.

Under the new law, sports organizations focused on women's football will receive the same rights and benefits as those dedicated to men's football. The Ministry of Sports is tasked with encouraging female participation, strengthening youth competitions, and supporting the creation of professional and grassroots teams. Additionally, the ministry will work with clubs and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to implement protocols to prevent racism, discrimination, and violence against women in the sport, including athletes, referees, coaches, and fans.

The law also impacts the Football Corporation Law (SAF), requiring any club seeking SAF status to develop both men's and women's teams, or exclusively women's teams. The government aims to foster partnerships between schools, universities, and clubs to identify talent and improve employment opportunities for women in technical, managerial, and officiating roles.
