Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has formally incorporated the Free Trade Agreement between Mercosur and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) into the country's legal framework. The presidential decree was published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union following approval by the Brazilian National Congress.

The agreement is set to enter into force for Brazil and Iceland on October 1, while implementation between Brazil and Norway will begin on November 1. Preferential tariffs involving Switzerland and Liechtenstein will take effect once those nations complete their respective internal incorporation processes.

Under the terms of the deal, EFTA members will eliminate import tariffs on industrial and fisheries products from the Mercosur bloc. The agreement also covers various sectors, including services, investment, government procurement, intellectual property, and sustainable development, aiming to diversify Brazil's international trade partnerships.
