Lula Announces Restart of UFN‑III Fertilizer Plant in Mato Grosso do Sul

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva landed in Mato Grosso do Sul on Thursday, June 25, to oversee the technical visit to the Unidade de Fertilizantes Nitrogenados III (UFN‑III) project in Três Lagoas. The President formally announced the resumption of construction on the Petrobras‑owned fertilizer complex, backed by more than R$ 5 billion from the Novo PAC. The revival is slated to create about 8 000 direct and indirect jobs, with commercial operations expected to start in 2029. Petrobras chief Magda Chambriard and Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira were among the officials present.

After Três Lagoas, the delegation travelled to Ponta Porã, where Lula inaugurated airport upgrades and delivered 1 390 land titles to families in the Itamarati agrarian settlement and other municipalities. Additional measures included credits from the Programa Fomento Mulher, resources for building 200 homes in Campo Grande’s Tia Eva community, regularisation of five quilombola territories, and the launch of a 60‑seat agronomy course at the Universidade Estadual de Mato Grosso do Sul. Vice‑President Geraldo Alckmin, First Lady Janja, and other ministers accompanied the president on the trip.
