Brazil presidential inauguration scheduled for January 5, 2027
The inauguration for the fourth term of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin will take place on January 5, 2027. This marks a departure from the tradition of January 1st, which has been the standard since the 1988 Constitution.
Under Constitutional Amendment No. 111, passed on September 28, 2021, the new schedule also shifts the inauguration of state governors and vice-governors to January 6. This change is designed to allow elected governors to participate in the presidential ceremony in Brasília, as the events previously coincided on the same day.
The inauguration of federal deputies and senators remains unchanged, scheduled for February 1, 2027. On that date, lawmakers will take their regimental oaths and elect the leadership boards for both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
