Brazil presidential debates trigger media schedule changes

Brazilian media outlets are adjusting schedules and organizing events in preparation for upcoming presidential debates. TV Globo has announced changes to its programming for the week of September 28, 2026, due to a scheduled debate on Thursday, October 1. The broadcaster will not air the episode of “Quem Ama Cuida” on that date, and will adjust the timing of “Jornal Nacional” and “Jornal da Globo” to accommodate the event, which is expected to run from 21:30 to 00:40.

Globo has invited candidates Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Flávio Bolsonaro, Ronaldo Caiado, and Augusto Cury to participate, noting that substitutes may be called if any invitees are unable to attend.

Separately, Estadão and Grupo Bandeirantes have scheduled a second-round presidential debate for October 11, should a runoff occur. This debate will be part of a media pool including Cultura, Gazeta, Jovem Pan, and YouTube. The initiative aims to provide a platform for the two most voted candidates to present their governance proposals for the 2027–2031 term.
