Brazil prisoner fatally shot during BOPE transport on BR‑262

A 35‑year‑old man being escorted by the BOPE special police unit from Corumbá to Campo Grande was killed by a gunshot while the convoy stopped to change a tire at a fuel station along the BR‑262 highway, about 430 km from Campo Grande, Brazil.

According to police reports, the detainee, suspected of involvement in the death of a military police officer, was taken to a restroom at the station while officers performed the tire change. A single shot, reportedly from a nearby forested area, struck the prisoner, causing his death at the scene. Police secured the area, conducted searches for the shooter, and gathered witness statements and security‑camera footage. The investigation remains ongoing, with involvement from multiple agencies including the Civil Police, the Federal Highway Police, and border operations units.
