Brazil projected to have second-lowest solar energy costs by 2035

Brazil is projected to achieve some of the lowest costs globally for firm solar energy generation by 2035. According to a study by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Brazil's cost is estimated at approximately US$ 41 per megawatt-hour (MWh).

The projection, shared by the Brazilian Solar Energy Association (Absolar), accounts for the combination of photovoltaic generation and battery storage systems with a 95% reliability rate. This would place Brazil second among evaluated markets, tied with Oman and trailing only China, which has an estimated cost of US$ 33/MWh.

Absolar noted that these figures highlight Brazil's competitiveness in integrating solar power with battery technology. The association emphasized that technological evolution and declining storage prices are expected to increase the predictability and flexibility of renewable generation, allowing for better utilization of existing electrical infrastructure.
