Brazil promotes racial equality through municipal programs and public events

Municipal officials in Itabuna met with the Federal University of Southern Bahia to review racial and indigenous discrimination data and plan a partnership under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 18. The seminar highlighted that 59% of Itabuna’s population identifies as Black and emphasized the need for reliable school data to combat Black student dropout. The city aims to formalise the partnership with the university by early July to inform policies that address racial inequality.

In Salvador, the city's Secretariat of Promotion of Racial Equality organized a "Copa sem Racismo" fan‑fest at the Casa da Igualdade Racial, coinciding with the Brazil‑Haiti World Cup match. The event combined a live broadcast with an Afro‑entrepreneur marketplace, Junina food stalls and cultural performances, seeking to raise awareness against racism while celebrating Black culture and entrepreneurship.

Both initiatives illustrate local Brazilian efforts to integrate public policy, data‑driven analysis and community‑based events to advance racial equality.
