Brazil proposes integrated school-based support for atypical children
Federal Deputy Dr. Victor has introduced Bill 5036/2026, which proposes the National Policy for Child Development, Early Intervention and Integrated Inclusion (PNDII). The legislation aims to integrate health, education, and social assistance to support atypical children by providing multidisciplinary services, such as psychology, physiotherapy, and speech therapy, directly within the school environment during after-school hours.
The proposal seeks to reduce the logistical burden on families by minimizing the need to travel between different specialized centers like APAE or CRAS. By providing care within the school setting, the policy aims to ensure continuity of treatment and allow professionals to better monitor each child's specific developmental history.
In a related local effort, the Rio Bonito Rehabilitation Center held a meeting for parents and caregivers of children receiving therapy. Part of the ‘Yellow September’ mental health awareness campaign, the initiative focused on the ‘care for those who care’ concept, providing emotional support and a space for dialogue to address the psychological and social challenges faced by families managing the daily routines of children with disabilities.
