Brazil proposes mandatory animal abuse reporting info on pet food packaging

A bill currently under review in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, identified as Projeto de Lei 3171/26, proposes making it mandatory to include information regarding official channels for reporting animal abuse directly on pet food packaging.

The initiative, introduced by Deputy Messias Donato, aims to increase public awareness and facilitate reporting of cruelty, abandonment, and neglect. By utilizing the high visibility of animal feed packaging, the project seeks to provide immediate guidance to pet owners and caregivers on how to contact the appropriate authorities when witnessing animal mistreatment.
