Brazil proposes prison for repeat vehicle noise offenders

Bill No. 4573/2025, currently under review by the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, proposes criminal penalties for drivers who repeatedly use vehicles with excessive noise caused by illegal modifications. The bill, introduced by Deputy Kim Kataguiri, seeks to escalate punishments from current administrative infractions to criminal offenses.

Under the proposal, a driver who commits the infraction again within a 12-month period could face simple imprisonment or a fine of R$ 1,000. Subsequent repeat offenses would result in a doubled fine. The measure specifically targets intentional modifications designed to increase sound levels, such as modified silencers or free exhausts, rather than incidental noise.
