Brazil proposes R$ 2.7 million for international organization contributions
The Brazilian National Congress is evaluating a special credit proposal, PLN 31/26, to inject R$ 2.7 million into the current federal budget. The funds are intended to settle the country's voluntary contribution obligations to various international organizations and cover expenses not originally included in the approved budget law.
The proposed allocation targets four specific ministries:
• Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock: To pay a voluntary contribution to the World Fund for Animal Health and Welfare of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OMSA) to support secure trade during sanitary crises.
• Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services: To fund a voluntary contribution to the Inter-American Network of Government Procurement (RICG), an entity linked to the Organization of American States (OAS), to boost international technical cooperation in public purchasing.
• Ministry of Cities: To honor a voluntary commitment to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
• Ministry of Labor and Employment: To implement traceability mechanisms for funds originating from labor civil public actions and judicial settlements, ensuring they are applied exclusively to worker rights protection programs.
The resources will be sourced by canceling other expenses that the government states will not be carried out this year. The proposal will be analyzed by the Joint Budget Committee (CMO) before proceeding to the Plenary of the National Congress.
