Brazil's PSB Confirms Geraldo Alckmin as Lula's Vice‑President Pick

At the Partido Socialista Brasileiro (PSB) national convention held in Brasília on July 29, 2024, the party formally endorsed President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s bid for re‑election and announced former São Paulo governor Geraldo Alckmin as the vice‑presidential candidate on the ticket.

Lula and Alckmin delivered speeches emphasizing the defence of democracy, their joint record of economic growth and social programmes, and confidence that the alliance will win the 2026 election even if errors occur. Alckwin warned that “who does not believe in democracy should not run for office or ask for votes.” Lula also accused former President Jair Bolsonaro of being responsible for more than half of Brazil’s Covid‑19 deaths, calling him a “homicide.”
