Brazil pushes ahead with bridge opening in Pelotas and flood‑resilient water stations in Porto Alegre

The concrete bridge of the Colônia de Pescadores Z3 in Pelotas, Brazil, is in the final stages of construction. The 17‑metre long, 10‑metre wide structure, built by Pizzato Engenharia at a cost of R$ 897 000 with federal civil‑defence funding, is expected to allow limited vehicle traffic in early August, with full two‑way use once curing is complete.

In Porto Alegre, works to protect the Moinhos de Vento and Menino Deus raw‑water pumping stations from flood damage are nearing completion. Concrete discharge chambers are being installed at the well‑heads, and hermetic caps will be added at Menino Deus. The municipality projects full completion of all interventions by the end of August, enhancing resilience against extreme flood events.

Both projects are funded by municipal or federal sources and aim to improve local infrastructure and safety.
