Brazil finishes fifth in women's gymnastics team final
The Brazilian women's artistic gymnastics team secured fifth place in the team final at the World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Led by Olympic medalists Rebeca Andrade and Flávia Saraiva, the team earned a total of 159.730 points. The Brazilian squad, which included Lorrane Oliveira, Thais Fidelis, and Sophia Weisberg, was the only finalist to improve its score compared to the qualifying round, moving up from eighth to fifth place.
China won the gold medal with 165.764 points, ending a 20-year drought and breaking the dominance of the United States, who took silver with 165.531 points. Japan claimed the bronze with 164.063 points, marking its first world podium appearance in 60 years. France finished in fourth place.
The top three teams—China, the United States, and Japan—secured direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Because Brazil finished outside the top three, the team must aim for qualification at the 2027 World Championships. Individual competitions continue with Flávia Saraiva and Lorrane Oliveira in the all-around, Rebeca Andrade in vault, and Saraiva in the balance beam.
