Brazil ranks third globally for low physical activity levels in ASICS report

A global study by ASICS, the 2026 Movement Preservation Report, reveals that 60% of Brazilians do not meet the World Health Organization's recommendation of 150 minutes of weekly physical activity. Furthermore, 35% of the population engages in less than 30 minutes of movement per week, placing Brazil third globally among populations with the lowest activity levels.

The report highlights that Brazilians spend approximately 88% of their waking hours, or roughly 14 hours a day, in a state of near-immobility. This sedentary behavior is attributed to the convenience of digital services, such as online shopping and social interaction via screens, which reduce the need for physical movement.

Using the 'State of Mind' indicator, the study found a correlation between physical activity and mental well-being. Brazilians who meet the 150-minute weekly goal achieved an average mental well-being score of 74, while those exercising less than 30 minutes per week scored significantly lower at 63. On a global scale, the report warns that if current trends persist, the proportion of inactive individuals worldwide could reach 56% by 2035.
