Brazil recalls ambassador to Argentina after Milei insults Lula and judge FAST-MOVING

Argentine President Javier Milei delivered a 25‑minute speech at the Liberal Party (PL) convention in São Paulo, where he endorsed Flávio Bolsonaro’s presidential candidacy. In the address he called Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva a “thief” and a “prisoner” and denounced Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes as “trash” (or “bald trash”) for denying him a visit to former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded by summoning its ambassador in Buenos Aires, Julio Bitelli, for consultations and later recalled him to Brasília – a diplomatic measure indicating strong discontent. Supreme Court president Edson Fachin labelled Milei’s remarks a “disrespectful reference to a magistrate of the highest court.”

Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof warned that the row could damage Brazil‑Argentina trade and investment. Milei also claimed that Brazil financed 25% of an “anti‑Argentine campaign.” The incident has heightened tensions between the two neighbours.
