Brazil records two river drownings in Sergipe and São Francisco

A 32‑year‑old fisherman who disappeared while diving in the Rio Sergipe near the Barra dos Coqueiros hydro‑terminal was found dead on 3 June 2026 at the former Atalaia Nova pier. The Corpo de Bombeiros Militar de Sergipe confirmed the body showed signs of drowning, with the cause to be determined by the Instituto Médico Legal.

A day earlier, 21‑year‑old Natan Alves Feitosa, who vanished while swimming in the Rio São Francisco in Paulo Afonso, Bahia, was recovered after a sub‑aquatic search by divers. The Bahia fire department identified drowning as the likely cause and his body was taken to the local Instituto Médico Legal for autopsy. Both incidents are being investigated by the respective state authorities.
