Brazil regulators and utilities upgrade water supply systems in Tavares, Mostardas and Duque de Caxias

The Agência Estadual de Regulação dos Serviços Públicos Delegados do Rio Grande do Sul (AGERGS) completed inspections of the water supply systems in the municipalities of Tavares and Mostardas. While the services operated by Corsan were deemed operationally satisfactory, AGERGS issued a series of recommendations: Tavares must improve operational monitoring, reservoir protection, signage and chemical storage; Mostardas must strengthen preventive maintenance, modernize flow‑measurement equipment, expand telemetry and refine reservoir control mechanisms. The agency set a compliance deadline of up to 120 days and will monitor implementation.

In Duque de Caxias, the Águas do Rio company is modernising the Taquara Water Treatment Plant with a R$1.2 million investment. Upgrades include structural adaptations, new dosing equipment for sodium hypochlorite, replacement of filtration media, and revitalised pipelines, boosting the plant’s capacity and resilience during heavy rains. Director‑executive Samuel Augusto said the works aim to secure water supply for the neighborhoods of Taquara, Jardim Primavera, Imbariê and Vila Sapê. The project also incorporates environmental education activities for local school students.
