Brazil releases R$ 100 million in Seguro-Defeso benefits for fishermen
The Brazilian National Institute of Social Security (INSS) has released a fourth batch of Seguro-Defeso payments, totaling over R$ 100 million for 15,541 artisanal fishermen. This disbursement, scheduled between October 13 and 17, 2026, follows a larger operation where 179,089 beneficiaries received R$ 1.041 billion between July and September.
In the municipality of Sena Madureira, Acre, registration for the Seguro-Defeso benefit will run from October 19 through February 15. The registration process, held at the local Fishermen's Colony, follows Ministry of Labor guidelines to ensure artisanal fishermen can access income during the 'piracema'—the period when fishing is prohibited to protect fish reproduction.
Beneficiaries are encouraged to monitor their status through official digital channels, such as the Digital Work Card or the Alô Trabalho center, to confirm eligibility and payment dates.
