Brazil releases R$ 6.5 billion in extraordinary credit for exporters

The Brazilian government has issued a provisional measure (MP 397/2026) to release R$ 6.5 billion in extraordinary credit for the Export Guarantee Fund (FGE). This funding is intended to support exporting companies and their suppliers who have been impacted by international trade tariffs, specifically those from the United States, or by conflicts such as the war in the Persian Gulf.

The Ministry of Planning and Budget stated that the demand for credit through the BNDES has exceeded double the previously authorized limit of R$ 7 billion for 2026. The funds will be drawn from the FGE's financial surplus and do not count toward the government's fiscal target.

Under the Plano Brasil Soberano, established by Law 15.473 of 2026, the credit is designed to protect domestic exporters from global commercial and geopolitical volatility. While the funds are available immediately due to the urgent nature of the measure, the National Congress has up to 120 days to analyze and vote on the provisional measure.
