Brazil releases report on animal welfare in meat industry

The Brazilian Food Industry Collaboration for Animal Welfare (COBEA) has released an English edition of its report, ‘Animal Welfare in the Brazilian Production Chain: Progress and Ambitions for the Future’. The document provides a collaborative overview of animal welfare developments across Brazil’s poultry, swine, beef, and dairy sectors for an international audience.

The report notes that while animal welfare is advancing through improved scientific research, corporate policies, and farm practices, progress remains uneven. Significant improvements are most visible in organized supply chains managed by large companies with high investment capacity. However, a large portion of production remains outside these structured initiatives, leading to varying levels of adoption across the country.

To accelerate progress, the report recommends improved measurement, stronger value chain collaboration, increased investment, and wider access to innovation and knowledge sharing.
