Brazil reports 127 citizens dead or missing in Ukraine war

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) announced that 127 Brazilian nationals are dead or missing while fighting in the Russia‑Ukraine conflict. The updated tally includes 35 confirmed deaths and 92 persons classified as missing, up from 22 deaths and 44 missing reported in February and 33 deaths and 86 missing in June. Brazil now ranks third among countries with the highest number of foreign combatants killed in the war, behind the United States and Colombia. Ukrainian recruitment campaigns, many in Portuguese, continue to promise salaries of up to R$ 53,000 per month for foreign volunteers. Itamaraty warned that Brazilians who enlist face limited consular assistance, contractual constraints that hinder leaving service, and possible criminal prosecution under Brazilian law for offences committed abroad.
