Brazil reports 67.3% increase in bullying and cyberbullying cases

Bullying and cyberbullying incidents against children and adolescents in Brazil rose by 67.3% in 2025, according to the Brazilian Public Security Yearbook. A total of 5,226 cases were recorded nationwide, consisting of 4,549 instances of bullying and 677 of cyberbullying.

Experts suggest the increase may be partially attributed to the implementation of Law 14.811/2024, which formally categorized “systematic intimidation” and “virtual systematic intimidation” in the Penal Code. This legal change, combined with a greater willingness from families and schools to report incidents, likely improved official registration numbers.

The data shows that 48% of victims were between 10 and 13 years old, while 45% were between 14 and 17. Specialists emphasize that prevention through educator training and clear school protocols is essential to addressing the ongoing challenge of violence in both physical and digital environments.
