Brazil reports child death investigation, wrongful arrest, and animal cruelty case

Several distinct criminal and police-related incidents have been reported in Brazil. In Porto Alegre, authorities arrested 22-year-old Beatriz Eduarda Costa Ramiro on suspicion of omission following the death of her four-year-old niece, Samylle Valentina Borba Ramiro. The child died from polytrauma after being allegedly assaulted by Ramiro’s partner, Nicolas Gabriel Almeida Staubuss, who is already in custody. Investigators state Ramiro waited approximately three hours before seeking medical help.

In Teresina, the Military Police Internal Affairs department has opened an investigation into officers who mistakenly arrested businessman Carlos Valnez Gomes Filho. The arrest occurred in the Porto Alegre neighborhood while the man was feeding his son; police reportedly confused him with a suspect involved in a local bar fight. Gomes Filho was released following a custody hearing.

In Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais, the Civil Police are investigating a 15-year-old male for the suspected killing of five family cats. The teenager allegedly posted images of the animals on social media. The parents reported the incident after discovering the posts, and the minor is currently undergoing psychological evaluation.
