Brazil faces surge in cyberattacks and financial fraud

Brazil is facing a significant surge in digital threats across corporate, financial, and social sectors. According to the ESET Security Report 2026, 62% of Brazilian organizations experienced at least one security incident in the last year, a rate higher than the Latin American average of 52.7%. Phishing and social engineering remain the primary entry points for attackers, affecting 70.9% of victimized companies.

The financial sector is also under heavy pressure. Data from Serasa Experian shows that fraud attempts in the financial industry grew by 9.5% in the first half of the year, resulting in an identity validation attack every nine seconds. Payment processing companies were the most targeted segment, accounting for seven out of ten identified occurrences in the sector.

Beyond corporate and financial sectors, SaferNet Brasil reported a historic peak in online crime reports in July 2026, prompting calls for increased oversight by the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD). Additionally, the ISC2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study 2025 highlights a critical human element in these vulnerabilities, noting that 95% of cybersecurity teams face skill gaps, particularly in artificial intelligence and cloud security.
