Manaus store fire causes structural damage and smoke in downtown area
A fire broke out at a commercial store on Henrique Martins Street in downtown Manaus on Tuesday morning. According to the building manager, the blaze was triggered by a short circuit in an air conditioning unit. The fire spread through the wiring to a third-floor warehouse containing cardboard, plastic materials, and clothing, which intensified the flames.
The fire caused significant smoke and structural damage, including a partial collapse of the building. During the emergency response, a firefighter was reportedly struck by falling debris, though official information regarding their health status was not immediately available. Several individuals were treated for smoke inhalation.
The Military Fire Department of Amazonas (CBMAM) and the Military Police isolated the area to ensure public safety. The incident also caused power disruptions for over 1,400 customers in the region.
