Brazil reports two firearm incidents killing and injuring civilians

A 19‑year‑old hunter, Luiz Richel Matias da Rocha, died on June 23 in the district of Catalão, Goiás, when his shotgun slipped on the floor of a canoe and discharged, striking his rib. He was taken to a local health unit but did not survive. Police seized the weapon and investigated the incident.

In Serra Talhada, Pernambuco, a shootout between police and armed men erupted during a party attended by more than 100 people. The exchange left one person dead and 15 injured. One victim, Raffaela, suffered a bullet lodged in her left leg that will require surgery after a 15‑day waiting period. Several other attendees were also wounded, including an elderly woman with a bullet in her clavicle.
