Brazil reports two separate incidents involving autistic children
In João Pessoa, a 9‑year‑old girl with level‑3 autism and her mother were asked to leave an Uber vehicle during rain after the driver complained about music the child was listening to. The driver said, "No my car, I keep who I want," and threatened police involvement. Uber confirmed it is reviewing the case.
In Marília, a 4‑year‑old autistic girl lost a tooth during a hula‑hoop activity on the school playground. The incident, the third she has suffered at that school, prompted the mother to demand better safety. The municipal education secretariat said the school provided immediate first aid, covered medical costs and will reinforce supervision and protective measures.
Both cases highlight concerns about the safety and treatment of autistic children in Brazil.
