Brazil requests U.S. assistance to notify Paulo Figueiredo of charges

Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) has informed Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes that it has once again requested assistance from United States authorities to personally notify journalist Paulo Figueiredo of criminal charges.

Figueiredo, who has resided in the United States for approximately 10 years, faces charges of coercion during legal proceedings brought by the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR). The prosecution alleges that Figueiredo acted to interfere in the judicial processes that led to the conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

A rogatory letter was originally sent to U.S. authorities in October 2025 to facilitate this formal notification, which is a required step for Figueiredo to be officially informed of the accusations and to present a preliminary defense. The MJSP stated it will forward any responses received from the United States to the STF.
