Brazil requires QR‑Code seal on all new motorcycle helmets

Effective from early July, Brazil’s National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) mandates that manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers sell only motorcycle helmets bearing the new digital Conformity Identification Seal, which includes a QR code. The QR code lets consumers verify the authenticity of the certification and enables authorities to track the product’s origin.

The regulation, set out in Portaria nº 314/2025, also applies to fire extinguishers and natural‑gas vehicle cylinders. Existing helmets that carry the old seal may continue to be used, provided they remain in good condition and meet safety standards. Inmetro clarified that the rule does **not** oblige owners to purchase new helmets. Non‑compliant sellers may face administrative sanctions and fines.

The transition was phased: manufacturers and importers had to adopt the new seal by 31 December 2025, distributors and retailers could sell remaining stock with the old seal until 30 June 2026, and from July onward only helmets with the digital seal may be offered for sale.
