Brazil residential complexes face electric vehicle charging challenges

The rapid growth of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle fleets in Brazil is forcing residential condominiums to evaluate their electrical infrastructure. According to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE), 42,448 light vehicles capable of external charging were registered in September 2026, representing a 159.4% increase compared to the same month in 2025.

This expansion requires buildings to assess garage electrical capacity, installation safety, and maintenance rules for charging points. While new buildings can integrate these requirements into their initial designs, existing structures require technical evaluations of electrical panels, circuits, and cable routing. Management must also consider the impact of simultaneous charging on other building systems, such as elevators and water pumps.
